Haiku Fields Listening Experience

Haiku Fields: Tea + Song Pairing Experience

Creative Direction | Event Coordination

Challenge

Haiku Fields’ EP titled “In the East Was the Sun” is a quiet and retrospective exploration of unpacking the past. However, art that is slow and contemplative can often get lost amongst the speed and short attention span of this fast-paced, digital age. Because of this, audiences rarely get to experience such art in the context which the artist had intended it to be experienced.

Solution

For the launch of the EP, we coordinated and hosted an intimate tea + song pairing listening experience to set the proper atmosphere and context that these songs were intended to be listened to in; a state of presence and stillness. This involved a curation of four different teas to complement each song, resulting in a multi-medium sensory experience.

1. Autumn Bloom
Tea Pairing: Sakura Sencha
Tasting Notes: Light, grassy taste complemented by subtle sweetness and fragrance of young spring blossoms

2. Golden Fields
Tea Pairing: Boricha
Tasting Notes: Smoky aroma, nutty and slightly roasted flavor with warm, caramel undertones and a dry finish

3. Heavy Stone
Tea Pairing: Shizuku Gyokuro
Tasting Notes: Natural rainforest aroma accompanied by an intense umami flavor and a thick mouthfeel

4. Down South
Tea Pairing: Sparkling Maesil-Ju
Tasting Notes: Bright and fruity aroma accompanied by tart, woody flavors and warm, deep undertones
